Developing neural network for COVID-19 detection

An important step in curbing the pandemic is the effective screening of infected patients.

Kitchener-Waterloo start-up DarwinAI has partnered with the University of Waterloo to develop a neural network that uses chest radiological imaging to detect COVID-19. The tool, called COVID-Net, aims to accelerate detection in a way that is open and accessible to the public.

This alternate, AI-assisted, x-ray screening method is meant to augment the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab tests that are now in short supply in many areas of the world on the frontlines of the pandemic. For more information, visit the University of Waterloo.
