The Council of Ontario Universities joins our Members in acknowledging the pain and frustration felt by the Black community. We stand in solidarity with the global movement to denounce racism in all its forms.
We recognize that it is not enough to simply condemn acts of racism. The recent protests and calls for action are clear messages to all organizations that we have a shared responsibility to uphold, prioritize and promote respect, equity, diversity and inclusion through awareness and action.
In the Canadian context, we also recognize that we have a history of systemic discrimination against Indigenous communities and other racialized groups.
We will continue to learn, listen and find concrete ways to create safe and inclusive workplaces and communities in the pursuit of safety and justice for all.
