In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, Ontario’s universities are proud to take part by hosting numerous events, discussions, activities and workshops that help promote the social, economic and political achievements of women.

Algoma
Algoma University is hosting an International Women’s Day Brunch, including a panel discussion of influential female leaders.

Guelph
In honour of International Women’s Day, the University of Guelph’s Research Facility for Women’s Health and Wellbeing will be holding the fourth annual two-day interdisciplinary conference to showcase innovative research related to women and girls.

Lakehead
Lakehead University is hosting an International Women’s Day Entrepreneur Panel in celebration of business start-ups that are led by women. Women entrepreneurs will share with the audience their greatest accomplishments and discuss challenges along their journey to running their own business.

Laurentian
In celebration of International Women’s Day, a number of activities are taking place in Greater Sudbury, including a sunrise ceremony and water walk, hosted by Laurentian University’s Indigenous Student Circle at 7 a.m.

The University of Ottawa’s Library Archives and Special Collections team is hosting a screening of a selection of films that highlights issues and challenges surrounding women during the 1960s and 1990s.

Queen’s
Queen’s Women’s Network (QWN) and Women in Science at Queen’s (WiSQ) are partnering with the Inclusive Community Fund, to celebrate International Women’s Day around the theme of #eachforequal. The one-hour event will have information on mentorship opportunities and support for women entrepreneurs.

On March 11, Ryerson University is co-hosting Be Bold 2020 with the Global Experiential Sport Lab (GXS Lab) and She’s4Sports. The University of Toronto’s Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), Sustainable Engineering Association (SEA) and the Global Engineering Club are hosting an International Women’s Day Gala on March 8 from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. The event is meant to commemorate and celebrate the achievements of women in an inclusive and welcoming environment for students, professors and professionals.

York
On March 3, York University unveiled the Entrepreneurial Leadership & Learning Alliance (ELLA) – a program created by women, for women – in celebration of International Women’s Day. The 10-month accelerator program will support 54 women entrepreneurs from York Region and the GTA to build a more equal gender representation within business owners.
RMC
As part of the International Women’s Day, the Athena Network hosted a Speed Networking (TGIT) event at the Royal Military College of Canada on March 5. During this event, members of the community were able to meet, chat and exchange with current and former CAF members, as well as, members of the RMC and Kingston community about issues relating to gender and a career in the Canadian Armed forces.
