Universities are responding to changing student needs when building new or renovating existing space on campus. Innovative learning environments – like active learning classrooms – and informal study space enhance the student experience, while improvements to research labs and facilities boost Ontario’s competitiveness.
Universities have established standards for how much space is required for its operations, including classrooms and labs. The triennial Inventory of Physical Facilities of Ontario Universities reports on how much space universities actually have compared to those standards.
This year’s report demonstrates that universities are using the space they have efficiently, but the growth in students has outpaced the growth in physical space over the last 15 years.
