"I know a lot of people are going through some really tough economic times right now and not in a position to give to the hospital, and that is okay…Painting allows you to enter into a state of flow and you can forget about everything else that is going on and if people are able to give to the hospital that's amazing."

Art class raises funds for local hospital

A pay-what-you-can online painting class is putting one Nipissing University artist’s talents to good use during the COVID-19 crisis.

Marianne Vander Dussen, an art instructor from Nipissing University, continues to teach art while working from home by running an art class online. Her previous free online paint classes have received more than 3,000 views and attracted international participants.

All of the donations received will go to North Bay Hospital Foundation to support their pandemic efforts, but people can participate even if they cannot afford to make a donation

The hospital hits close to home for Dussen, as her husband works as a physician assistant and is a member of the COVID-19 task force at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
