Ice roads represent crucial winter time links for Northerners. Their reliability rests on proper planning, construction and maintenance. Wilfrid Laurier University has partnered with the Government of the Northwest Territories to expand the Territories’ capacity to conduct environmental research and supply monitoring data needed to manage infrastructure, including ice roads.
Together, they have come up with a way to evaluate snow pack water patterns in the North, which has implications for future construction and maintenance of ice roads.
