Optical fibre cables are critical to global communication, but can deteriorate over time. It’s why an engineering student at York University developed the Photon Detector System – a device that can extend the lifespan of optical fibre cables.
The Photon Detector System helps solve this critical industry challenge through an advanced processing system and algorithm. Using this technology, the system lessens the noise from optical signals, helping reduce waste and costly replacements of equipment, as well as enhancing the overall quality of communication.
The system has been recognized on both the national and international stage and is listed as one of the world’s top new devices. The student is currently working on a start-up company that will help him commercialize this innovation.
