Enhancing employability for students in the growing content creator economy is important to strengthen the province’s position as a leader in the media and arts sectors. Through a hands-on innovative training program, OCAD University is preparing students for careers in Canada’s billion-dollar content creator economy with OCAD U LiVE – an on-demand video channel, production house, and content creator studio featuring original media produced by students.
This innovative model provides students with access to studio space, equipment, training, mentoring and networking sessions, giving them the tools they need to succeed in the film/media industry. As a result, students are gaining employable skills to work in film, television and digital media production.
Since its launch in 2020, OCAD U LiVE has trained more than 180 students, produced more than 66 multi-episode series, presented over 600 original videos and broadcast more than 150 hours of programming. This program supports students from a diverse range of disciplines, including Integrated Media, Experimental Animation, Advertising, Graphic Design, and Digital Futures.
