To better understand how students managed and mitigated the changes brought on by the pandemic, Wilfrid Laurier University student Rebekah Woodburn explored the relationship between undergraduate student well-being and the coping mechanisms students used while in school.
After analyzing survey results submitted by students, Woodburn found a strong relationship between students’ emotional well-being and their financial anxiety. In addition, she found the disruption to students’ work schedules, the intermittent closure of industries based on public health recommendations and the availability of work during the pandemic also contributed to anxiety, which impacted the overall well-being of many respondents.
Woodburn will make her research report available to university departments across the province to help administrators better support student well-being online and offline.
