Due to the pandemic, many care workers have been placed under unprecedented strains. To help address these challenges and reduce inequalities, Lakehead University’s Kathy Sanderson is leading a Canadian team to examine the diversity and vulnerability of care workers.
The team will interview 20 personal support workers (PSWs), with a focus on those providing home services, to document their experiences throughout the pandemic. They will then participate in virtual activities to share their views and make recommendations that will improve working conditions.
The data collected over the 30-month period will help find ways to reduce inequalities and vulnerabilities, while reducing stressors related to the job.
