“Experiential learning is essential for students: it helps them develop transferable skills, apply what they are learning in the classroom through hands-on practice, establish meaningful connections with peers and community members and critically reflect on their learning.”

Aisha Haque, Acting director of Western’s Centre for Teaching and Learning

To encourage the development of innovative, work-integrated learning opportunities in partnership with studentsWestern University has created the Experiential Learning Innovation Scholars Program.

Learning opportunities include simulations, field courses, industry partnerships, case-based learning and community projects. The program is developed for and with students and includes projects such as learning the chemistry and business of a perfect cup of coffee

The program allows students to increase and apply disciplinary knowledge, develop transferable skills, clarify interests and values, strengthen employability and collaborate with their communities.
