To prepare students for future careers in sustainable and regenerative farming practices, Trent University, through the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems program, is offering a specialization in Small-Scale Farming.
Through this hands-on field course that covers the principles of vegetable and field crops in terms of sustainable management on the Trent Farm, students study the principles of cultivating crops. This includes field preparation, soil and nutrient management, seeding, pest management, irrigation techniques, harvest and post-harvest. Graduates are able to develop a comprehensive understanding of food systems: how food is produced, distributed and consumed, locally and around the world.
The program also addresses global challenges in food production and environmental sustainability and offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in growing food and contributing to resilient regional food systems.
