“I believe this program is the missing link in the police-learning continuum around leadership and management of police services and police service boards…the policing environment is evolving. Police leaders at all levels are now faced with new and unique community needs and public-safety challenges.”

Fueling the Police Leadership Talent Pipeline Through Micro-Credentials

As the role of police officers continues to evolve, the sector will need a strong talent pipeline that can navigate ever-changing and complex accountability, legal and governance frameworks. In response, Trent University launched a micro-credential program to help senior police officers develop their leadership skills.

Through the Senior Police Leadership Micro-credential program, participants develop skills in areas, such as decision making, government, civilian oversight, operations and human resources strategies, over a 12-month period.

Taught by teams of subject-matter experts, including university researchers and retired police leaders, the courses aim to complement experience gained in the field and create a talent pipeline of officers with diverse skills and abilities for leadership roles.
