Helping Black students transition to university life
Share this story

To help support students from Black communities in their transition to university life, York University created the Black Excellence at York University (BE YU) program.

BE YU aims to help first-year, as well as upper-year, students from Black communities reach their academic and career goals through workshops, special events, mentoring and academic advising. The program is also supported by additional university-wide supports with services tailored to meet the academic, mental health, wellness and financial needs of Black students.
