Helping displaced hospitality workers reskill and upskill

Since shutdowns began, hospitality and tourism employment has decreased by 43 per cent in Canada, resulting in an overall sector unemployment rate of nearly 29 per cent – a rate that disproportionately affects youth, women and newcomers.

To assist workers who have lost their jobs, Ryerson University is partnering with OTEC, helping provide immediate resources to displaced workers and equip them with new skills, while also supporting businesses as they respond to changing market realities.

The project, called Rapid Response in Times of Disruption, includes a platform to support needs assessment and business planning among employer networks and facilitates shared learnings with other regions and sectors.
