To help identify potential treatments for COVID-19, researchers at Western University and the Lawson Health Research Institute are looking to better understand how the immune system responds to viruses and other diseases.
By looking at daily blood samples from patients who have COVID-19 at the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and then comparing with people who are healthy and who have other infections, will ultimately help researchers understand if a hyper inflammatory response of the immune system is why some patients get very ill and others don’t.
This study aims to prove that existing immunosuppressive therapies can help treat patients and lower COVID-19 mortality rates overall.
