“These families are stuck in their houses and apartments, completely cut off from services. Through this project, Adventure4Change can move some of their activities online and be able to connect with families over the next few months.”

Helping newcomers connect to community services

Many businesses and organizations have been forced to close or scale back operations due to COVID-19, including those that provide services for vulnerable communities, such as refugee families.

To help community organizations and policymakers strengthen their capacity to serve these families, Wilfrid Laurier University researchers have partnered with Waterloo-based Adventure4Change, an organization that provides important services to refugee families.

The researchers are asking families how isolation, school challenges, limited access to computers, language barriers, financial stressors and housing issues have contributed to the challenges they are facing during the pandemic.
