Helping to improve urban transportation

A virtual lab for urban design is helping to find innovative ways to improve urban transportation systems and design efficient, sustainable cities for communities across Ontario.

iCity is a collaborative project between researchers at OCAD University, the University of Toronto, the University of Waterloo, Esri Canada and IBM Canada. Through advanced data, analysis and visualization capabilities, the lab finds innovative ways to help ensure the well-being of individuals and society.

It sets out the conditions for individuals and groups to highlight their needs/wants/values and to participate in strategic planning opportunities, facilitating a more democratic and participatory urban design process. Sub-projects have included using visualization and data analysis to solve bottleneck problems with transit systems, among other activities.
