In a strong employer-university collaboration, Canadian e-commerce firm Shopify and Carleton University are giving computer science students the opportunity to split their learning time between the Carleton campus and Shopify’s downtown headquarters. Shopify covers the tuition costs of the Bachelor of Computer Science students, and pays them a salary for their work performed through the internship program. Students get the opportunity to learn in a creative environment where they can apply what they have learned in the classroom in a hands-on way, helping prepare them for a career after graduation.

“Over the years, Shopify has hired high school and university interns as a long-term investment in talent, and we quickly realized that some of the best ideas and contributions were coming from our interns.”
Jean-Michel Lemieux
Senior Vice-President of Engineering, Shopify
