Making masks for animal care workers

“OVC has provided people with sewing skills the material to make masks at home for any employees who want one. I think these initiatives show that in the toughest of times, people can come together for the greater good.”

Making masks for animal care workers

With a shortage of surgical masks across the province, University of Guelph community members are helping make masks for the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), so employees can continue to provide emergency animal care during the pandemic.

Because the animal care performed at OVC’s Health Sciences Centre often involves close contact between personnel, a partnership between OVC and the United Steelworkers Local 4120, is providing surgical drape material suitable for masks to those who have the skills and desire to help.

OVC employees are currently using face shields, but the masks provide them with a much needed additional layer of protection.
