Online literacy support for children

To help develop literacy skills in children, Nipissing University adapted NU Reads, a literacy program typically held through PA day and summer Saturday sessions, to an online newsletter as a way to keep in touch with families who are learning from home during COVID-19.

Students from the Schulich School of Education at Nipissing, creatively adapted the hands on program for home use and have delivered two digital newsletters so far, encouraging children to sing, read recipes, write lists, and read signs.

By curating these literacy resources they continue to provide parents with tools that will help keep kids busy, help motivate a love for reading and foster literary learning opportunities at home.
