“The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa was shut down and unable to support youth like they normally could. The at-home kit idea came up as an alternative solution to bring Link directly to the kids.”

Partnering to bring STEM education to local youth

When a program dedicated to providing STEM education for youth in underserved communities could no longer offer in-person sessions due to COVID-19, Carleton University’s Virtual Ventures quickly helped it adapt.

The team developed learning materials and organized 100 at-home packages that were delivered to families, containing a snap circuit electronics kit, an activity book on digital and engineering skills, as well as other activity and craft materials to encourage learning while at home.

The program, called Link<ed> is a partnership between Carleton, Shopify and the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, created to offer digital skills development workshops, as well as literacy and coding activities for local youth.
