Partnering to grow a better farm

Anticipating Mother Nature has always been an important part of farming. Nipissing University researchers have created an online system to help farmers in Northern Ontario make more informed choices about how conditions might affect crops. The system, called GeoVisage, is a remote, online support software that uses sensors to provide real-time, localized data about field conditions to farmers. Partners include Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp, Northeastern Soil and Crop Improvement Association, New Liskeard Agricultural Research Station, Cooperative Regionale de Nipissing/Sudbury Ltd, and Agriculture and Agrifoods Canada. GeoVisage incorporates real-time and historical data from seven weather stations about air and soil temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, leaf wetness, and other important metrics for farm scale decision making. It also supplies soil maps, yield maps, and field imagery.

GeoVisage provides crucial information in the increasingly important agricultural regions of Temiskaming Shores, Verner and Cochrane.
