Partnering with small businesses to develop talent
Share this story

Partnering with small businesses in the local community, York University provides paid internship opportunities for Liberal Arts and Professional Studies students who are looking to gain valuable work experience and build professional relationships. Businesses and community partners, such as the Markham Museum, LURA Consulting, and Shepherd Group, get access to the unique perspectives and fresh outlook of university students, while students get hands-on experience that complements their studies and career path.

“Students bring all kind of skills, and we certainly couldn’t get everything we want to do done in a year without the help of these many students… In four years, we’ve had seven placements, all very successful, and although not a specific goal of the program, we’ve hired four of those students over the years as well.”
Janet Reid, Curator at the Markham Museum, and Internship Supervisor
