"A few of our team members have spouses working at the hospital. This really hits close to home. This wasn’t a job we had to do, but when I mentioned it (to the team), everyone stepped up….It feels great to do our part.”

Pivoting operations to produce face shields

Ensuring access to personal protective equipment (PPE) has been critical during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To help provide more PPE for health-care workers, Western University’s Machine Services, based in the Engineering department, is pivoting its regular operations to produce face shields.

The face shields are low-cost and effective. The team estimates that between 200 to 300 shields can be produced daily and are currently looking into opportunities with General Dynamics Land Systems Canada, a global aerospace and defense company.
