Preparing elementary students for the jobs of the future

As math curriculums evolve to include new technical skills, such as coding, teachers will need to be equipped with the tools to integrate them into their lesson plans. Teacher candidates at Brock University partnered with the Niagara Catholic District School Board to help teachers address these challenges, supporting the design, modification and implementation of coding-based math activities for students in Grades 5 to 9.

Led by Professor Chantal Buteau, the partnership aimed to equip not only existing teachers, but also teacher candidates in an effort to prepare them for integrating coding and other technical skills into their future classrooms.

“This coding collaboration surpassed my expectations, which is a testament to the professionalism of the two Brock students with whom I was paired.”
