Producing 3-D printed protective equipment for local hospitals

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, hospitals are facing a shortage of vital medical supplies.

Faculty and technicians at OCAD University’s Rapid Prototyping Centre are designing and printing protective face shields for health-care workers, in partnership with Ryerson University’s FCAD Creative Technology Lab, the University Health Network Emergency administrators in Toronto and UC Davis in California.

OCAD is currently printing face shields approved for Michael Garron Hospital (formerly Toronto East General Hospital), and distributing all of its printers to staff and faculty who are able to print in their homes.
