Producing hand sanitizers for campuses

To help protect university staff and students who are still working and living on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic, York University staff members are producing hundreds of litres of hand sanitizer with supplies they have on hand.

Individuals from the Faculty of Science Stores at York University are using ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, and glycerol – typically used in university labs – and are following the World Health Organization’s recommendation to create this much-needed resource.

The team has produced approximately 400 liters of sanitizer that has been made available to university staff and students, enough to last a few months. They will continue to make more sanitizer on an ad hoc basis to help keep York’s campuses safe.
