Responding to mental health needs of the community

Second year students in the Design Think Tank course, surveyed over 250 students and discovered there was a need to help students find on campus resources for depression and anxiety. In response they developed the “OCAD U ok?” campaign which included workshops, posters, free art therapy and yoga, among other health information in order to help students find mental health resources.

Although the coronavirus pandemic scuttled much of their hard work, the students saw an opportunity to make a bigger impact within the larger community. The students transformed parts of their project into a virtual initiative, with help from Beverly Dywan, Industrial Design instructor. The @ocadu_ok Instagram account features dozens of posts contributed by students – inspirational images, quotes, artwork and videos reflecting their creative responses to promoting wellness during this public health crisis.
