“While it’s a scary and uncertain time, we can also reach out to other people. It’s just coming from community need and community support.”

In order to flatten the curve, many are self-isolating and limiting their time outdoors. This necessary action is leaving individuals who are at higher risk, including seniors, unable to leave their homes to buy essential items.

Inspired by a viral social media post about individuals shopping for local seniors, a group of students at Western University organized the London Volunteer Task Force.

“The idea is to provide a no-contact service and mitigate some of the risks for people who aren’t able to get to the store themselves,” said Maximillian Soltysiak, student organizer.

The task force offers grocery shop-and-delivery for vulnerable individuals and those in self-quarantine.
