Student creates mobile station for safer screening

To help health care workers better screen patients during emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, a Western University researcher has designed a transportable medical unit to help screen patients before they enter the hospital.

Doctoral student and power grid specialist Ramtin Rasoulinezhad, an intern at Hamilton’s AVL Manufacturing, designed the unit which is similar in shape to a freight container.

Each unit can be fully equipped with medical supplies, ventilators, and power as well as built-in climate control, air filtration and contamination-preventing negative pressure systems.

Since each station is mobile, they can be deployed in minutes. Rasoulinezhad sees the future opportunity for them to be repurposed to serve other community needs post-pandemic.
