Supporting global student experiences to develop local talent

Global experiences can help drive innovation through new perspectives. To help provide students with cross-cultural opportunities, Lakehead University’s exchange program looks to enhance small-scale and traditional farming practices in Ecuador while also conserving biodiversity and mitigating climate change.

Through local and international collaboration, students and supervising researchers hope to improve water management, soil conservation and pest control, as well as help produce a wider range of products, including organic and traditional foods in both the local Thunder Bay area and in South America.

Through this experience, students are learning to think critically through a global lens to solve local challenges and developing the communication skills they need in an increasingly globalized and interconnected world.
