To help their future co-workers on the frontlines of COVID-19, medical students at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), a partnership between Lakehead University and Laurentian University, created a grassroots group to provide childcare services and run errands for health-care workers – inspired by their counterparts across Canada.
The students are also working with Health Sciences North to create practice N95 respirators and help train medical professionals on how to properly use personal protective equipment, without using these in-demand products.
The group continues to work with inter-professional student groups, such as, nurses and paramedics, as well as regional public health units to find other ways to help, such as, with contact tracing or manning crisis support lines.
