“After making a large purchase of ethanol just a few weeks ago for the next academic year, we were happy that we could contribute and make a difference to local efforts that are helping reduce the risk of COVID-19 for essential workers and our community.”

Supporting local distilleries produce hand sanitizer

To support the production of hand sanitizer at a time when it remains in high demand for frontline workers, Trent University’s donation of ethanol to a local distillery is helping stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As local distilleries pivot their operations from producing spirits to sanitizers, Black’s Distillery in Peterborough sought community donations to keep pace with demands. Trent University responded to the call by providing 140 litres of ethanol from research labs on campus, to help produce 2,000 bottles of sanitizer.

Their donation helped the local distillery bridge the gap, and continue to provide sanitizer to local groups and community organizations. Black’s will be distributing the sanitizer to NGOs, police, fire departments and other frontline workers.
