The COVID-19 pandemic has created a growing demand for nurses in Ontario. To help support the province’s health-care system and its patients, nursing students at Ryerson University stepped up to assist on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic in hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area.
Through an externship program, students supported staff in critical departments such as intensive care in addition to assisting with patient care and administrative duties. While the externship program helped ease the workload on nursing staff, students also gained valuable skills to prepare them for their careers such as working independently and adapting to changing circumstances.
