“The dons indicated that they wanted to continue doing programming, running activities and events and checking in with students, even though they weren’t expected to. This is in addition to themselves being students and managing the stresses of the current situation. It really is heartening to see.”

Supporting students in residence during COVID-19

Being far from home during the pandemic hasn’t been easy for students unable to fly home due to limited international flights and border closures.

To support those living in residences, the University of Toronto is finding ways to keep spirits up and maintain a strong sense of community.

Staff and residence dons have moved social activities, academic workshops and health and wellness initiatives online. They are using tools like Zoom for social networking, providing meal pick-ups and exam preparation sessions and offering online programming for the kids who live in the family residence building.
