Ensuring students from Black communities have equitable access to opportunity is critical to building strong and inclusive campuses. To support students, Professor Carl E. James at York University, in partnership with RBC, is leading a project that aims to help high school students as they plan for their future, as well as support the retention of those who pursue university degrees.
Throughout the project, James will work with students from across the university to better understand their experiences and challenges as they navigate university life in an effort to determine what resources are required to support their success. Students will also report on their experiences, assessing who and what has been instrumental in helping them reach their goals.
By helping identify tools and barriers to success, the project will help inform university programming to support the needs and realities of youth from Black communities.
