"This new collaboration presents an exciting opportunity to bring together our research experts at the University of Windsor with a nimble, entrepreneurial and technologically sophisticated team at Inovex to ensure that the work that we do in the lab can be translated to real-world scenarios."

Tapping into a big data haul at the Cross-Border Institute

Cross-border business and border management are critical to Canada’s economic future. Smart policy decisions in this area demand a deep understanding of economic development, geography, engineering, management science and political science. Researchers with the Cross-Border Institute (CBI) at the University of Windsor, along with those at the Forum for International Trade Training, and the Canadian and Ontario governments are studying all these issues. The institute is located just steps away from the Windsor-Detroit border, the most important crossing for Canada-U.S. trade, providing researchers with a unique perspective.

Research at the institute is revealing important trends in cross border transportation and the impact of policy decisions by governments on both sides of the border.

A recent partnership between the CBI, the Council of the Great Lakes Region, SOSCIP, IBM, and Inovex Inc. will use big data to aggregate and analyze weather, traffic, and border wait time data so that better real-time decisions can be made in moving perishable and time-sensitive goods through the Great Lakes supply chain and across the Canada-U.S. border.
