The Foundry accelerates innovation and skills development

To help students, faculty and staff advance and enhance their digital literacy and technical skills, Laurentian University is expanding services in the Foundry, part of its Jim Fielding Innovation and Commercialization Space.

With funds from the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), the Foundry bought 3D printers, laser cutters, virtual and augmented reality systems, and a digital media lab.

The equipment is helping students develop new technologies and create new businesses. It is also fueling Greater Sudbury’s economy by helping to create five startups per year, while supporting jobs and growth.
