Training Toronto’s future municipal leaders

Providing students with the opportunity to learn about careers in government can help develop a strong public sector talent pipeline, while providing an invaluable work-integrated learning opportunity.

Through a special topics course titled Arts, Designers and City Builders, OCAD University is connecting students with city leaders from the City of Toronto to help them learn more about urban issues and policy development.

The course is part of a broader program called CivicLabTO that brings together students, faculty, researchers and City of Toronto staff to conduct research, address urban challenges and think critically about how arts, equity and sustainability can inform key areas of city life, such as health care, built environment and transit.

Versions of the course are also offered at other universities in the Greater Toronto Area including Ryerson University, University of Toronto and York University to help build a strong talent pipeline of individuals who will understand the complex challenges facing Toronto now and in the future.
