Tutoring high school students heading to university this fall

A new virtual tutoring program is helping high school students improve their academic skills as they prepare for a postsecondary career this fall.

In partnership with school boards across the region, Algoma University has created the Algoma Connect Program. Through this unique program, Algoma students in the business administration and science programs are provided with training to tutor senior-level high school students. The Algoma University tutors then take those skills and offer free one-on-one support, as well as group mentoring opportunities,  to high school students that are struggling with mathematics. High school students also have the opportunity to ladder into Algoma’s University Preparation program over the summer, where they can improve their literacy and numeracy skills before entering university.

The purpose of the Algoma Connect Program is to give back to the community and offer a structured means for students to improve their academic skills before entering university-level education.
