“I love the idea of students supporting students. Sometimes, especially for early year students, it can be intimidating to reach out for help, but our mentors are understanding, encouraging and here to support you.”

Anna Strojwons, Third year student

Virtual student mentoring

To better support students with their online studies, Trent University has adapted the Academic Mentoring Program at their Durham campus.

To help shift to virtual student supports, Anna Strojwons, a third year English major in the Teacher Education Stream at Trent, is developing a virtual academic peer support model to encourage students to explore their academic potential through study groups, one-on-one mentoring, developing strategies for success, and connecting students with relevant supports.

Through a network of student volunteers, sessions will be facilitated through Zoom meetings to help build meaningful connections and ensure continuity of support to help students achieve their academic goals.
