Building Ontario’s cybersecurity workforce

While Canada’s cybersecurity industry has an annual growth rate of seven per cent and is expected to reach US$200 billion by 2023, there is currently a gap in the number of attacks and the number of skilled people who are trained to fight them.

Toronto Metropolitan University is helping fill the skills gap in the high-demand field of cybersecurity through its Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst. The Catalyst is training Canada’s next generation of highly skilled cybersecurity experts by offering training and education opportunities with a focus on three streams: programming geared towards women, new Canadians and those looking for a new career in cybersecurity. In addition, the Catalyst is offering an Accelerated Cybersecurity Training Program geared towards helping participants enter the cybersecurity sector job-ready in just seven months.

By growing Ontario’s cybersecurity workforce, the number of cyberattacks on both home and corporate networks can be better mitigated to ensure user safety and privacy, while positioning Ontario as a global leader in a fast-growing sector.
