Advanced nanotechnology is helping soldiers stay safe with next-generation textiles developed through Alchemy, a startup from University of Waterloo’s Velocity incubator, making uniforms and equipment harder to detect.
Originally developed to protect automotive windshields, the technology has been adapted by Alchemy into next-generation textiles with nanocomposite coatings that block thermal infrared signatures. This multi-spectral camouflage conceals heat across mid-wave and long wave infrared spectrums, with future applications planned for broader military equipment.
The result is a multi-spectral camouflage solution that enhances operational safety in diverse environments. Looking ahead, the team plans to explore an aerosolized version of the technology for broader military equipment and uniform coverage, further strengthening solders’ protection.
