Ontario’s Northern Universities Collaborating for Regional Economic Growth and Prosperity in Northern Ontario

TORONTO, October 24, 2024 – Ontario’s Northern universities — Algoma, Lakehead, Laurentian and Nipissing — are pleased to provide feedback on the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario’s consultations for a Prosperity and Growth Strategy for Northern Ontario (PGSNO), specifically focusing on immigration, talent attraction, retention and upskilling to support job creation and economic growth.

These universities play a crucial role in the region by:

  • Attracting students
  • Supporting industry through innovation and talent development
  • Enabling workforce upskilling
  • Fostering connections for economic development

Universities are committed to supporting the PGSNO through collaboration with stakeholders and community partners, as well as working alongside federal and other levels of government to build a strong and prosperous Northern Ontario.
