“We want to motivate clinicians, researchers, and students to bring their innovations from the lab into the real world. The university has strong resources to help with commercialization, and we want to encourage people to take advantage of them.”

Accelerating AI-Driven Health Care Breakthroughs

New work is underway to scale responsible medical AI, accelerate research breakthroughs, improve clinical decision-making, and deliver more equitable patient care, through the Ottawa Medical Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (OMARI) at the University of Ottawa.

By advancing medical AI, OMARI will bring together researchers, clinicians and partners working at the forefront of AI in health to help move ideas from the lab into real-world solutions. Researchers across the University of Ottawa and its affiliated hospitals are developing AI tools that can help diagnose rare diseases in children more quickly and improve clinical decision-making.

The institute aims to support commercialization, connect innovators with funding opportunities and provide access to critical resources such as computing power, specialized software, talent and research funding.

By expanding training opportunities for students, researchers and clinicians and improving access to research infrastructure and data platforms, OMARI will help accelerate discovery, strengthen industry collaboration and prepare the next generation of medical AI innovators.
