Developing spin-off companies that add jobs in a region can build financial vitality.
Western University’s WORLDiscoveries, through commercialization activities and innovation programming like the Western Medical Innovation Fellowship, are nurturing entrepreneurs who create companies like Frontline Medical – a medical device company that has built a novel device to control bleeding in trauma patients.
A partnership between the university, Robarts Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute, WORLDiscoveries draws on industry connections, market knowledge and business development expertise to help researchers and local inventors turn innovations into profitable consumer-ready products. It is currently helping a team of Western researchers patent their rapid COVID-19 antibody test while searching for commercialization partners.
