Helping students develop in-demand transferable skills

More and more of Ontario’s employers are looking for graduates with soft skills, such as leadership, communication and critical thinking. Algoma University is not only helping to ensure students can have access to opportunities where they can develop these in-demand skills, but also ensuring students are able to effectively communicate them to prospective employers.

Through its Global Learning Leadership Skills Development Program (GLLSDP), students will receive co-curricular credit and a transcript notation on their e-portfolio. These achievements can then be shared with the employer to help make a clear connection between the student’s skills and the needs of the company.

Additionally, the GLLSDP is designed to encourage underrepresented student groups, such as low-income students, students with disabilities and Indigenous students, to participate in the program to help ensure access for all willing and qualified students.
