“Working for a non-profit is really rewarding, because each day I wake up and remember that what I’m doing helps the community. It’s rewarding for both the student, the organization and the community.”

Supporting Local Non-Profits Through Work-Integrated Learning

As non-profits in the Waterloo Region look to fill talent gaps within their organizations, the University of Waterloo and the United Way Waterloo Region are partnering to connect students with local non-profits through the Co-op for Community program.

Through work-integrated learning, students apply skills learned in class to support United Way-affiliated non-profits, as well as gain new skills through the program, such as grant writing, marketing and community investment.

Launched in 2021, Co-op for Community has supported the employment of more than a dozen Waterloo students with plans to expand the program to universities across Canada.
