Through their innovative virtual reality Critical Minerals Processing Lab, Queen’s University is training a new generation of mining engineers and leading cutting-edge research and capacity building when it comes to mining and critical minerals.
With a focus on the societal and environmental impact on the mining industry, Queen’s has built a virtual reality mineral processing plant that has been integrated into several undergraduate courses. These facilities, including an explosives test site, are helping expand learning opportunities for students beyond traditional classroom settings by providing hands-on, practical experiences that mirror real-world industry scenarios.
This will equip graduates with an understanding of sustainable mining practices, reducing environmental impacts and enhancing industry responsibility. With the rising demand for critical minerals, the Critical Minerals Processing Lab supports student success and the industry’s shift toward globally in-demand, sustainable practices.
